Hylenex

A hyaluronidase injection used to dissolve unwanted or misplaced hyaluronic acid filler. A safety net that lets you adjust filler results with confidence.

What It Is

Hylenex (hyaluronidase) is an FDA-approved enzyme injection used to dissolve hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers like Juvederm, Restylane, and Revanesse. Whether you're unhappy with previous filler results, experiencing migration, want to reverse over-correction, or have a rare complication, Hylenex offers a reliable solution. Hyaluronidase works by breaking down hyaluronic acid molecules, allowing your body to safely absorb and clear the dissolved filler. This treatment is one of the most important reasons HA fillers are considered such a safe, reversible category of injectables.

How It Works

Your provider will assess the area and discuss your goals, whether you want to dissolve all the filler, reduce a specific area, or correct migration. After cleansing the skin and applying topical numbing if desired, Hylenex is injected directly into the area where the filler resides. Treatment takes 15–30 minutes. You may notice immediate softening of the filler within hours, with full dissolving typically apparent within 24–48 hours. Some cases require a follow-up treatment 1–2 weeks later if any filler remains.

Ideal Candidate

Hylenex is ideal for clients who are unhappy with the results of previous filler treatments, experiencing filler migration (especially in the lips), have lumps or asymmetry from prior treatments, or want to start fresh before a new filler treatment. It's also used in rare cases of vascular complications. Hylenex requires a pre-treatment allergy test for some clients, and is not appropriate during pregnancy or for those with allergies to bee venom or hyaluronidase.

Aftercare & Recovery

Mild swelling, redness, and bruising at the injection site are normal and resolve within a few days. Apply ice gently as needed. Avoid strenuous exercise and alcohol for 24 hours. The dissolving process can sometimes feel slightly itchy or warm, this is normal. If you're planning to receive new filler after dissolving, most providers recommend waiting at least 2 weeks for swelling to resolve and your tissue to settle. Stay hydrated to support recovery.

Common questions

How quickly does Hylenex work?

You may notice softening within hours, with full dissolving visible within 24–48 hours.

Will Hylenex dissolve all my filler?

Hylenex specifically dissolves HA-based fillers (Juvederm, Restylane, Revanesse). It does not affect non-HA fillers like Radiesse or Sculptra.

Can I get new filler right away?

We recommend waiting at least 2 weeks for swelling to resolve and tissues to fully settle before placing new filler.

Does Hylenex hurt?

We apply numbing cream for comfort. Most clients tolerate it well, though it can feel slightly more sensitive than filler injection itself.

Is Hylenex safe?

Hylenex is FDA-approved and has an excellent safety profile when administered by a trained provider. We screen for allergies before treatment.
